Stocks Waver Around the Breakeven Line Ahead of Fed Minutes

A bumpy morning for the stock market continued as the major indexes were struggling to hold above breakeven.

The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average were both down slightly after moving in and out of positive territory. The Nasdaq Composite was down 0.1%.

The CBOE Volatility Index was up 4.3% to 18.58 at around 11:30 a.m. ET after briefly spiking as high as 19.50. The VIX measures implied volatility in the coming 30 days for the S&P 500. Any reading north of 20 suggests heightened volatility in markets.
