Pedro Pascal’s family is always standing by his side.
The actor’s parents, Verónica Pascal Ureta and José Balmaceda Riera, fled Chile with Pedro and his sister when they were young. The couple “had to go into hiding for about six months” after becoming political refugees, Pedro said during a June 2023 episode of the “SmartLess” podcast.
Initially, they sought asylum in Denmark before moving to the United States.
“My parents, they were just very young when they had my sister and myself,” Pedro he added. “I wouldn’t say my parents were revolutionaries by any stretch of the imagination, but they were young, liberal college students.”
Pedro initially lived in Texas before moving to California. While in America, his parents welcomed his two other siblings. Pedro suffered an immeasurable loss when he lost his mother at 24 years old.
“She was always incredibly supportive, never a stage mom,” he told People in 2020. “I always felt like she knew something that I didn’t. None of [my success] would be real if it weren’t for her.”

Verónica Pascal Ureta
Pedro’s mom was a child psychologist before her 2000 death. When Verónica died by suicide, the actor dropped everything and flew home to his native Chile. Pedro started using her maiden name professionally to honor her memory.
José Balmaceda Riera
José’s profession as a fertility doctor is what moved the family from Texas to California. He’s super supportive of his Pedro’s career, even attending the November 2024 Gladiator II premiere in London.
Javiera Balmaceda Pascal
While she’s not an actress, Javiera is rooted in the entertainment industry just like her younger brother. She works for Amazon Studios as the head of local originals for Latin America.
Prior to her production job, Javiera worked as an investment banker in Chile.
Nicolás Balmaceda Pascal
Not much is known about Pedro’s younger brother. However, he does work in the medical field.
“This is my brother, Nicolas,” Pedro captioned an April 2019 Instagram post. “He’s getting his PHD in pediatric neurology. He hates attention and he loves doing good. It’s his birthday. To punish him for being younger, smarter, and more handsome I thought I would announce this to the world.”
Lux Balmaceda Pascal
Just like her brother, Lux also has some acting credits under her belt. She made her acting debut in the 2011 movie Baby Shower and has nabbed roles in various projects ever since. Lux is also a transgender activist, coming out publicly as a trans woman in 2021.
